TRIUMPHANT FINALE FOR IGEM 2019 62 Companies Pledge for Next Year

11 October 2019, Kuala Lumpur – Reinforcing its position as the region’s most powerful green technology, business and innovation platform, the 10 th International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia (IGEM) 2019 hosted a befitting finale to celebrate its double success of surpassing this year’s targets and securing a significant number of sign-ups for IGEM 2020.

Organised by the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change, IGEM 2019 hosted 300 exhibitors and 35,000 visitors from 35 countries. With the increasing emphasis on climate mitigation and adaptation, next year’s IGEM themed Energising Sustainability, will encourage exhibitors and participants to showcase their commitment to balance socio-economic progress with environmental concerns to collectively ensure a secure and sustainable future.

Yang Berhormat Puan Yeo Bee Yin, Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change said, “It has been a milestone IGEM this year, both in terms of the decade of contribution and achieving our targets. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the sponsors, exhibitors, conference partners, speakers and delegates for making IGEM 2019 an overwhelming success.”

“I urge all of us to re-evaluate our workplaces and personal lives in terms of what we are thinking, doing and purchasing to make sustainable choices a natural part of our lives. Only then, will we be truly sustainable; only then, will we be able to make an impact and inspire others,” she added.

The stellar line-up of returning exhibitors includes Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Jinko Solar, LONGI Solar and Hanwha Q Cells, regional pavilions such as EU – Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, The High Commission of Canada, Taiwan External Trade Development Council, Korea and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands as well as some of the Malaysian state pavilions.

One of the key announcements at IGEM 2019 was the repurposing of the co-organiser Malaysian Green Technology Corporation (GreenTech Malaysia), as the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Centre. The rebranded organisation will have an expanded portfolio that will include strategising climate-resilience actions, leading inter-ministerial collaborations, encouraging uptake of green technology innovations across industries and raising awareness among the general public.
